I find when correcting bugs, it is a two step process. Step one is finding the broken code. Step two is finding the best solution. Not just the first one which comes to mind. The best solution will follow best practices to write clean code. We have a document with all of the Best Practices listed by category. A code monkey will just put in the first solution they discover which ‘fixes’ the bug and stop there. This is never a clean solution.
Just stop and ask yourself, “Is this the best solution or just a good solution
