Syntax is the grammar of a programming language, coding is the art of writing a program to instruct the computer to do some task

Syntax is a structure according to which you have to write the code.
Code is what is to be written as per the syntax.
Machine understands code if written in the correct syntax.

Syntax is to code, like grammar is to English or any other language. A big difference though is that computers are really exacting in how we structure that grammar or our syntax. This syntax is why we call programming coding. Even amongst all the different languages that are out there.
